June 2020 SAME JAX Newsletter

Bringing value to your SAME membership!

Top Large Post Award!

Congratulations to the sustaining and regular members of the Jacksonville Post! The efforts and participation of our events over the past year made a difference in our Post being selected as Top Large Post.  The Jacksonville SAME Post received this prestigious award for their outstanding commitment in upholding the Values of SAME as outlined in the Streamer Criteria; Relationships, Leadership and Mentoring, Resilience, and Membership.  We are thankful to our membership for your support this past year.  Without your participation this great distinction would not be possible. We also want to congratulate the Officers, Directors and the Board for all of their hard work and creativity.  As stated in President CAPT Monreal’s announcement, “All of your hard work this past year - despite the obstacles of hurricanes and COVID-19, have been recognized by our National board.” “I have said it from the beginning; this post is so active and engaged...this recognition demonstrates your pursuit of excellence in alignment with the SAME Mission and Vision.”

In addition to being named Large Post of the Year, our very own Elizabeth May has been recognized by Nationals for getting the Membership Recruitment Champion Award. Her efforts contributed greatly to the Jacksonville Post being named Large Post of the Year, seen on Page 92 of this month's The Military Engineer.

Thank you for all that you do for S.A.M.E. and the Jacksonville Post, Elizabeth.

SAME Puerto Rico Field Chapter. Fall 2019 the Jacksonville Post worked with our Regional Vice President, Cindy Miller and National SAME to formalize re-opening the Puerto Rico (PR) Field Chapter.  On 26 March 2020, the Jacksonville Post President, CAPT Mike Monreal, signed the Charter officializing the San Juan, PR Field Chapter.  As the SAME Jacksonville Post and our PR Field Chapter embark on both the Second Century and the 2025 SAME Strategic Plan; the SAME San Juan Field Chapter was excited to kick off the year by hosting a Sustaining Member Briefing on 12 March 2020.  Present was Keynote speaker Ron Terrell, PE, from JACOBS, representing SAME Regional Vice President Cindy Miller, PE, JACOBS. Ron gave an excellent presentation on how the Field Chapter can make a difference in Society and the local A/E/C community.  Collaboration is key as we move onward towards Celebrating the SAME Centennial and beyond.

2020 Scholarships. This year the Scholarship Committee received eight High School and fifteen College applications. All eight High School students were notified and congratulated of the 2020 SAME Scholarships via mail and email.  The students are responding and thanking SAME immensely for their scholarship awards. Currently, the Committee has 15 college student applications under review with $20,900 available funds for award.  We are anticipating awarding the college students June 15th.

A New Student Chapter. The Jacksonville Post is collaborating with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) and activity will pick up when COVID restrictions ease.
