Nationals Recognizes Three SAME JAX Members as Fellows

SAME held its first-ever virtual Fellows Investiture Ceremony on Sept 16, 2020.  Among the Fellows Class of 2020 were 3 individuals from the Jacksonville Post: Brian Files, Tony Buitrago and Douglas McCutchen.  Each of these individuals have provided dedicated service to SAME and the Jacksonville Post for many years and they are very deserving of this distinguished accomplishment.  If you are interested in becoming an SAME Fellow, check out the following link: https://www.same.org/fellows/nominations  The process has already started for 2021 candidates but you can certainly set a goal for 2022 or beyond!

September Meeting Slides

Last month's meeting was presented by Jacksonville's JEA, a community-owned utility that proudly serves an estimated 478,000 electric,  357,000 water, 279,000 sewer and 15,000 reclaimed water customers.

The slides from the presentation are available by clicking here.

Ways to Get Involved with SAME

by Elizabeth May, Membership Chair

National hosts a variety of Communities of Interest (COI) that members at large are welcome to join.

The mission of the Membership COI is:

Develop and communicate to all Posts the strategies, best practices and tools that are most effective for them to grow their membership, to foster greater member engagement and leadership, and to enhance their members’ experience with SAME, further enabling each Post to support the current Strategic Plan of the Society.

Purpose of the Membership COI:

As one of only three “operational” Communities of Interest (vs. “technical” COIs), the Membership COI serves as an extension of the national office staff to assist all Post leaders, especially Posts’ Membership Chairs/POCs, with the tools, resources and connections necessary to help enhance their members’ society experience through their locally relevant Posts.   Between our COI members and the post membership chairs/POCs, invited to our calls and sponsored webinars, we are over 140 people strong across SAME.

SAME’s Membership COI is open to any SAME member to participate.   Unlike many of our other COIs that focus in on special professional and technical interest areas important to SAME members, the Membership COI provides participants with a broad-ranging opportunity to become involved at the national level.  Our forum has the potential to positively impact the experience of every current and future member of the society as it pursues its strategic goals.    If you are interested in getting more information about Membership COI activities, or in serving on the Membership COI Steering Committee, please e-mail your interest and contact info to Michael Huffstetler and [email protected].

Objectives of the Membership COI

Provide opportunities to foster connections with other post leaders across all sizes of posts and post geographies

Engage with best practices employed at others posts’ by their leaders and members

Share creative tools and resources aimed at improving post level retention and recruitment successes

For more information or to join any of the COI’s visit https://www.same.org/Communities-of-Interest

Also, any interested in joining our Post can contact Elizabeth May at [email protected] to fast track your application.
